Brief Social Psychological Interventions to Increase Academic Achievement: A Systematic Review
|
A growing body of research shows that brief social psychological interventions (such as role model, growth mindset, values affirmation, social-belonging) can yield large and long-term benefits in terms of academic achievement and task performance. In this review, we systematically compare the effectiveness of these interventions across different age groups, intervention types, and types of gap addressed (e.g., racial, gender).
Large effect of these interventions seem to be possible when (a) they target the key processes at most appropriate time slot, (b) the interventions are tailored to the individuals and the context rather than “one model fits all” approach, and (c) the appropriate methods were used to deliver the key messages. Our evaluation ultimately helps to understand the impact of these interventions on students’ achievement and explore the potential of these intervention in educational settings.
